Harlette Live: #TucsonandAcoustic on 102.1 KFMA Shmonty in the Morning

So, I haven’t been posting very much lately and to be perfectly honest, I haven’t really been reading all that much either. Thanks to a lot of changes both personally and professionally, I’ve been taking the last couple of months to really get all of that shit in order. It’s taken a bit longer than I would like, but what can you do?

I live a pretty busy lifestyle. I work a very demanding full-time career for a very good company and I love my job. But, like I said it’s demanding. Even when I’m not physically in my office, I’m always working. Sometimes I think I’m literally incapable of thining about anything else but work. And though I haven’t really been finding the time to read, which is my real love in life, I’ve been busy catching up with some other hobbies in my life. One of the things I have been trying to learn during this time is that I need to leave time for all the loves in my life.

I’ve recently gotten back into rock climbing, which has been a frustrating blast. I’ve been rock climbing off and on since my early teens and thankfully married a man who shares my love for the outdoors and climbing. However, we took a break off in the last year, both because it’s expensive and we have literally no time.

I’ve also been focusing on the band that my husband and I started roughly six years ago. We call ourselves Harlette. We’re a four piece alternative, blue rock…okay, I really have zero idea how to put our sound into words. We play heavier music? Anyway, one of my reasons for posting is because this morning we played on one of our local radio stations in Tucson for their #TucsonandAcoustic local music set. Like I said before, we play heavier music, so acoustic is really abnormal for us. Regardless, I’m really stoked to post this video that the station took of us! So without further ado.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon + A Life Update

Some of you may or may not have noticed that I’ve been a smidge MIA since the beginning of the year; probably more of the latter since I would highly encourage your lack of interest in my life outside of what you see on this blog. I say that mostly because it’s boring, maybe a bit anxiety ridden, but mainly boring. Ever few months, in spurts, my fulltime job of babysitting grown human beings and repeatedly slamming my forehead on my desk gets a bit hectic. Whenever this happens, I tend to forget to read. Okay, not so much forget but have zero energy for or zero time. Also whenever this happens it depresses the freaking hell out of me. Thankfully, work is starting to slow down, as well as my personal life, and I can see that reading horizon in the distance beckoning me to run towards it. Which brings me to Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon this Saturday!!

A readathon is exactly what the book doctor ordered for this girl. If you don’t know what Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is, go here to learn more and sign up! This is my second time participating and I’m hoping to do MUCH better than I did last time when I accidentally overbooked myself for the day (something I tend to do very often) and ended up getting yelled at by all my friends for bringing a stack of books with my everywhere. Haters gonna hate, yo. While I do have plans for later in the day on Saturday (cause who can say no to a local beer festival? Not this girl. Southern Arizona’s click here) I plan on getting in a decent amount of reading done in the morning while my husband is being forced to fix a dent on my car in order to get him the hell out of the house and away from distracting me. The struggle.

I’m actually not even really sure why I make TBR’s for readathons. I always look at the pile I made and sway away from it as soon as I start reading. I have a habit of being a bit of a moody reader. I’m also attempting to finish a few books that I started at the beginning of the year but put down for one reason or another. My OCD is totally kicking in.

To be honest, the comics will probably be the first to be read. I went on a bit of a comic buying splurge last month and have QUITE a few to finish, especially since I plan on stopping by my local comic book store tomorrow to pick up more from my pull list. It’s an addiction. As for the rest of my pile, I tried to pick a few thinner books from my massive stack of TBR books on my desk (which is starting to get a bit scary) along with a book or two that I’ve been staring at for a while. We’ll see how well I do by the end of the day. I’ve also started a new challenge to myself where I’m listening to every Star Wars related novel in audiobook format in chronological order. I started yesterday and that will definitely be playing whenever I have to drive anywhere or inevitably clean my disaster of a house. Ugh housework.

Anyway! I’m really ready for this kickstart back into reading. Are you participating this weekend? What books are on your TBR? What do you do to kickstart yourself back into reading after a slump? Never had a slump, you’re a liar and I hate you. No really, I love you, give me your magical powers.

What’s Going On With Me?

Hey guys! Over the last two weeks I’ve been a bit MIA thanks to work and the week long vacation I just returned from with my husband. To be nice to my husband, who has to deal with the fact that I’m either glued to a book, my iPad (reading a book) or just my laptop in general, while on vacation I pretty much unplug. Which only means that I made the conscious decision to leave my laptop at home. I suppose I could have blogged a bit from my iPad, but there is something about typing on that screen for more than a few sentences that really bothers me. Plus, it’s incredibly hard to finish any content when you’re itching to hit the roulette table to earn back that money Vegas so clearly owes me. It was an incredibly fun two weeks, but, honestly, a week is a bit too long to be completely unaware of what’s going on around me in the world or on the interwebs. I’m glad to be back in the comfort of my own home with working internet.

Here’s what i’ve been up to

It was an phenomenon that we had two Friday the 13th’s in a row. Maybe phenomenon isn’t the word to describe it, since calendars are fairly set in stone, but I thought it was pretty damn cool. A good friend of mine and former coworker happens to be my tattoo artist and works at a shop that offers $13 dollar tattoos to celebrate the date. Maybe an unlucky date isn’t the best day to get a tattoo, but I’ve done pretty okay so far. Last month, he knocked out a quick tiny Deathly Hallows on my wrist. This month, I went with a good girl friend of mine and we decide to finally bite the bullet and get little dinosaurs on our ankles. We’ve talked about doing this for a while. Dinosaurs have somehow become the icon of our friendship over the years. So introducing Alfie! He’s my tiny purple longneck dinosaur and yes, he was meant to be Barney colors.

I colored my hair this not so mellow highlighter yellow color. I have a certain reputation for changing up my hair at least once a month. You can check out my Instagram to see the constant circle of colors I go through. This yellow color is from the neon on line by Pravana and I absolutely love it. I also think it makes me a little more Asian than I already am (the peace sign picture doesn’t help), I’ve been getting anime jokes throw at me ever since I came back to work with this color.

I started out my vacation with a trip up to Phoenix to see my best friend’s dad’s ’55 Chevy win the prestigious title of Best Chevy Muscle. It is so well deserved. He’s been working on this car on and off for the last two decades and my husband has put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it over the last six. I’m so proud to see this car finally done, running and turning heads.

After my weekend in Phoenix admiring the beauty of the automotive, my husband and I flew a whopping hour to Sin City herself. Vegas is pretty much a second home to us, while I’ve been going at least once a year since I was a kid with my parents, we’ve been enjoying the thrills of Paradise together some four times a year since we turned twenty-one. We were total gambling noobs until we met our good friends Peter and Kevin on Halloween night five years ago, who after gaining some luck with our presence have been our Vegas traveling buddies ever since. This week wasn’t our best when it came to our the roulette table, but it’s never a dull time.

A great end came to my vacation when upon coming home I received this month’s BookRiot quarterly box. I have a bad addiction to subscription boxes, but BookRiot never fails to deliver.

What’s up with you?
